The finale event of V-Day Toronto '09, STRIKE A CHORD, NOT A WOMAN is a gathering of beautiful men making beautiful music - raising their voices in song for an end to violence against women and girls.
When we hear about violence against women, we hear about men as perpetrators. But men are also the dads, husbands, brothers, boyfriends, and best friends who would do anything to protect the women in their lives. STRIKE A CHORD...NOT A WOMAN is a concert of exclusively male singer-songwriters raising their voices in solidarity with V-Day's mission, created by V-Day Toronto producer Tanisha Taitt for the 2007 campaign.
"I want to celebrate the amazing men who believe that violence against women is not only unacceptable but abhorrent. Honouring women shouldn't dishonour men." Taitt says. "Men are beautiful and they are our brothers. Sadly, some behave in ways that are an affront to us all, but a good man strives to never be an instrument of pain. A good man uses his voice and his strength to lift others up, not push them down. There is almost nothing more beautiful that a man's voice being gentle. A good man aims to be haven, not a weapon. There are two genders on this planet - we need to love and understand each other for humanity to continue."
